Delfoi Oy – the journey at the forefront of digitalization
Delfoi’s story began in 1990, when the company was founded under the name Tehdasmallit. The founders, Raimo Puro and Heikki Aalto, set out to transform industrial production planning by leveraging advanced simulation technology. In the early years, the company focused on developing digital factory models that allowed customers to optimize their production lines and logistics processes even before implementation. This laid the foundation for Delfoi’s core mission: enabling smart and proactive decision-making supported by a virtual factory.
In 2000, the company changed its name to Delfoi Oy. The name was inspired by the oracles of Delphi in ancient Greece – known for their ability to offer guidance on future decisions. In the same spirit, Delfoi’s mission has always been to simulate and plan for the future. With the new name, the company expanded internationally and placed an even stronger focus on industrial process development.
In the 2010s, Delfoi emerged as a global leader in software development. Delfoi Planner, the company’s cloud-based production planning solution, quickly became a market leader in Finland and expanded internationally. At the same time, Delfoi Robotics became a major global player in offline programming for industrial robots, serving some of the world’s leading manufacturers and robot suppliers around the world.
In 2021, Delfoi divested its Robotics business to Visual Components Oy, a Finnish company and part of the global automation group KUKA AG. This strategic move allowed Delfoi to focus fully on its core expertise: software solutions for production planning and control. Since then, the company has significantly invested in the development and international expansion of the Delfoi Planner solution.
In recent years, Delfoi has also expanded its expertise into the health and social care sector. The Delfoi Planner for Healthcare solution is used to optimize care capacity, workforce recources, patient flows, and bed occupancy, supporting more sustainable and efficient operations across public and private healthcare systems.
In 2024, Delfoi restructured its business by selling its consulting operations to its former management, who established a new company: Delfoi Consulting Oy. As a result, Delfoi now focuses entirely on its software business and the international growth of the Delfoi Planner solution.
